Speaking directly with voters is the most effective and persuasive way to get the word out that Annisa is the best choice for the next alderman of the 33rd! And if you really, really, really can’t talk to people (or live outside of Chicago ), we included some “non-speaking” ways as well! When you decide how you want to help, sign up to volunteer!
Canvassing / Door-to-Door – This is the best way to help!
What: Join other volunteers as we knock on doors and talk to neighbors about Annisa’s vision and experience.
When: Weekdays 4:30-7:30 Saturdays 10:30-1:30, 2:00-5:00 Sundays 1:00-4:00
Where: Varies every day!
Why it’s easy: 1) We are knocking on the doors of people who vote and have shown interest in the future of the ward. 2) There is a script so you don’t have to come up with it on your own. 3) You’re with other people! 4) We don’t send anyone out without information and guidance!
Anything else?: If you’re an old pro at door-to-door and want some autonomy, we can drop of a list of people near your home!
Phonebanking
What: Not too different from above – but on the phone.
When: Also the same as above – but when its ”vortex” cold – we only phonebank.
Where: You can do this from the comfort of your home. From our office. From a coffee shop. All you need is reception on your phone.
Why it’s easy: There is also a script!
Anything else?: This can be done from anywhere (for those people who aren’t in Chicago) and *67 protects your privacy.
Data Entry
What: Exactly what it sounds like, getting the info collected from the walks into our database. This information helps us be efficient!
When: Much more flexible – mornings, afternoons, evenings
Where: In our office. At your home. From a coffee shop. Wherever you and your laptop want to go!
Why it’s easy: We have a "How To" guide that has been very useful for volunteers!
Anything else?: Not that we can think of, but if databases scare you, this is probably not for you...
Literature Drops – Walk a neighborhood and leave information about Annisa at targeted households.
Hold a House Party – Have 10-15 of your neighbors over for a meet and greet with Annisa!
Social Media – Do you have mad social media skills? Not “yes, I know how to use Facebook” but really know how to really engage people? We could use your help setting up guidelines and training others! Do you like to post to Facebook, twitter, and Everyblock? Let us know that too! These are great ways to get the word out.
Organize Your Neighborhood – Do you have a regular meeting with neighbors where Annisa should speak? A local watering hole where you want to organize an informal get-together for a group of neighbors? A coffee hour in your house of worship that is open to hearing from candidates? Anywhere else in your neighborhood that people congregate? Help us set it up!
Fundraising/Finance – Do you know any businesses in your neighborhood that want a more proactive alderman to fight for the ward? Do you have an aunt who wants a someone to fight for more responsible budget decisions? Do you have a passion for organizing fundraisers? Do you really like balancing books and entering receipts? Let us know!
Any other special skills to contribute? – You know yourself better than we do! So sign up to volunteer and send other ideas our way and we can talk out how to best make it happen. Or email us at volunteer@annisaforalderman.com.
