CHICAGO – If you were writing a movie script for a stereotypical Chicago municipal election - the 33rd Ward race would have all the elements you need. Nepotism, unions, ballot challenges, campaign finance investigations, and 4-foot high yard signs. Now it’s time to add “free lunch for voters” – literally. Ald. Mell, Committeeman Mell, and Rep. Andrade have organized a “Meet the Candidates Senior Bingo/Lunch” – but only one candidate has been invited (see flyer). “Voters see these old-school tactics and it makes them question Ald. Mell’s integrity every time she says, ‘I am different than my father.”
“As a candidate, I am not surprised about the Mell’s “Free Lunch/Bingo Prizes” event. As a citizen, I am disappointed they are abusing their positions of power to provide partial information on the candidates. The flip side is that one of my senior volunteers brought the issue to our attention so they are wise to the tricks,” said Wanat. “On Saturday, I will be our knocking on doors and talking to voters about the irresponsible budget decisions that are being made on our behalf, while the Mell’s are trying to buy votes. I am ok with that optic.”
Annisa Wanat has been endorsed by the Chicago Sun-Times, the Chicago Tribune, and the Fraternal Order of Police.
